Welcome to Cafe Fledermaus, a delightful cafe nestled in the heart of New York City at 1048 5th Ave. This charming establishment brings the essence of Europe right to your table, offering a serene escape from the bustling city streets.

Upon entering, you are immediately greeted by a cozy ambiance that radiates warmth and comfort. While some diners may opt to enjoy their meals in the more refined upstairs areas, I highly recommend venturing downstairs to fully immerse yourself in the authentic European feel. The intimate setting is perfect for quiet lunches or indulging in afternoon treats, making every visit an experience to savor.

The menu at Cafe Fledermaus is a delightful exploration of traditional Viennese cuisine paired with modern sensibilities. Indulge your sweet tooth with their classic Sachertorte, a luscious dark chocolate cake complemented by apricot confiture, or take your taste buds on a joyride with the Klimttorte, a divine chocolate and hazelnut cake that perfectly balances richness and texture, all for just $10.50. Don't overlook the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, a whimsical composition of chocolate cake layered with cream and cherries—it's a must-try for dessert aficionados!

For those in search of a refreshing beverage, the Hausgemachte Trinkschokolade is a deliciously rich house-made chocolate milk, decadently served with vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream and cocoa powder, ensuring a taste explosion for $13.00. Alternatively, the Wiener Eiskaffee is the ideal refreshment; chilled coffee fused with vanilla ice cream is a heavenly treat during hot city days.

Customer experiences further extol the virtues of Cafe Fledermaus. Stewart Manson praises the quick service and quality of food, highlighting how consistently satisfying the experience is. Craig Seabrooks emphasizes the cozy vibe while recommending the food, which he assures is worth any wait you might encounter. Ana Butler beautifully articulates how the café combines beauty and comfort, with staff that genuinely care about your dining experience. It’s this attention to detail and high-quality fare that keeps patrons returning for more.

For those who appreciate an environment that feels both elegant and welcoming, Cafe Fledermaus is a gem not to be missed. Whether you're indulging solo or enjoying a meal with friends, this cafe invites you to relax, unwind, and revel in the extraordinary flavors and comforting atmosphere. Make your way there soon—you'll find it's more than just a meal; it's a delightful culinary journey!

A very nice quant restaurant. Don't wait for the upstairs, go to the basement and witness a true European feel. It's cozy, and tight, but wonderful. The food is excellent and not badly priced. It is NYC! But be prepared to wait in any instance. We would go back just for the food. The museum is wonderful as well.

This spot turns ordinary ingredients into special meals. The food is consistently good and the service always pleases. Works nicely for unplanned dinners or eating alone. Workers are exceptionally nice and flexible, with quick food delivery. This restaurant should continue operating.

I was a bit put off by the security that, among other things, didn’t permit me to bring in a bottle of water. I realize it’s a museum but I was just going into the cafe and even if it didn’t feel unnecessarily strict, the men at the door and desk were very taciturn. Cafe Sabarsky was a beautiful room and while there wouldn’t have been much of a wait, we went downstairs to Cafe Fledermaus where it’s much more informal. The food was very well presented and enjoyable.

The online complaints don't match the care I experienced here. Under any circumstances, the food quality stays excellent. The service was precise and thoughtful. The food is so good, and the portions are huge too. This spot is AMAZING!

How many great meals did I miss by waiting so long? Staff was extremely sweet and helpful in every way possible!!! The taste profiles here are perfect. The decor, the servers, and the kitchen all excel. I find myself eating here regularly.
